A group of researchers just found “Edge of the World”

…and it really disturbed me.

I just watched a reel on Instagram about a group of researchers who have found “Edge of the World” somewhere in Antarctica. They claimed to be walking for the last 7 days to reach this spot where the side of the ice glacier is cut clean as if by knife, rather than a gradual slope which was expected, and there is just space on the other side. It seemed like a place where normal laws of physics don’t apply. Near the edge even their GPS stopped working and they were unable to locate the place on their map.

The video was quite intriguing and was like one of my acquaintances as well. To know more about the project I visited their instagram page and found that the team has been posting about it for quite some time. In one of the videos, the researcher tries to throw a piece of snow off the cliff and rather than falling down due to gravity, it keeps going into space. The last post was posted just a few hours back. The story was quite incredible and I was just wondering why something like this didn’t blow up in the news already? The page already has over a hundred thousand followers. Something really felt odd.

I started checking their other videos too and they all seemed quite genuine just like a regular update by a team for a project. It was almost after going through a few posts I realised that the length of most of the videos was quite short. They were not even a minute long. That’s when it struck me that these are AI generated videos. It was as if I had lost my footing for a minute. I was really scared and deeply disturbed. The video looked very real. I don’t think we can take any video or image or even text for granted anymore. It has become easier than ever to keep leaving breadcrumbs across the internet.

This was just one such channel, I am sure more of such channels are in the making. Our future world is going to be a lot of fiction and we will have to sharpen our deduction skills just to know a real event from a fake one.
