AI and our sense of reality

I was looking at a very realistic video of a news reporter reporting live how they spotted an alien spacecraft coming out of the sea. At one moment she was all serious and at the very next she looked into the camera, smiled and said “ I am not real “. I was taken aback for a minute. At first because the video was very real and completely believable. The only objective distrust came from my sense of reality that an Alien Spacecraft can’t suddenly come out of the Ocean. This is not natural and doesn’t happen in my experience of life I have known so far. This became my only yardstick of disbelief.
My next thought, truly shocked me. I am still coming from a generation who have experienced an analog world. We still understand what is possible and what could just be a camera trick based on our experience. Now think of a generation who is born after AI. For them their sense of reality will be rooted in AI.
Our perception of the world is going to change drastically. How we navigate the media and information is going to pivot itself on its own head. How we used to start with considering most of the information and media being true and doubt it only if something looked fishy. With the post AI generation, they will consider everything to be AI generated to start with. Their doubt would be that a certain content is not AI generation, rather real.
This distrust has already become part of our lives experience with countries already indulging in propaganda warfare. There might be companies who will be paid just to verify information.
What does this mean for reality?
The “truth” that we are so proud of, will not matter anymore. Every one will have their version of history that they believe in, their version of the world they consider to be true. At the end of the day our lives are nothing but the stories we are telling ourselves and now those stories are going to be immersive and live in that our life will become a real time simulation.
There are already so many layers of fiction we already believe in like our title, wealth, social standing etc. with AI it will become even more important to anchor our understanding about who we are and what this universe is all about.
AI has always fascinated me, I believe it will speed up our understanding furthermore. I still see the future as hopeful though a little wibbly wobbly. What do you think about it? Do share in comments.
