Nothing to Lose

In India a middle class upbringing is a living breathing phenomenon in itself. It’s deep seeped into our collective memory which makes up nostalgia of 90s. It was last 10 years post which, Y2K happened and the world changed drastically. Both me and my husband subscribe to this Subculture of 90s nostalgia and our middle class values with it.
Our years as working professional also gave us advantage of being part of early start up culture in India. Startup Mafia were people we personally knew and have grown with. We are happy with our regular jobs and might never end up starting a thing of our own. Even though we are doing great in our lives, this heritage of being middle class kids makes us feels like imposters in our professional lives. Someone who enjoys perks of a certain position ( which we rightfully own ) but still have this uncanny feeling of not being deserving of it. Even when we are great at jobs this mindset is something we have to consciously counter.
This is one thought which damps my confidence at times. Other day I speaking to my husband and I realised that he has made the same thought his superpower. Just because he still rooted to where he comes from and “feels” he is not deserving of where he is he works with the knowledge that he has — nothing to lose. Even if something goes wrong and he fails, he his setback can take it to a mindset which he is really deserving of in his head. He flipped the whole idea and made it his superpower.
If you have — nothing to lose — it sets you free, post which you take decisions which makes you look good but which are actually right. If you work with Nothing to Lose attitude, you would do wonders in your job and that’s what my husband does every single day!
