I am no oracle but this prophecy might actually come true. In a recent interview Demis Hassabis claimed that AGI might become a reality as soon as 2030. As per Google’s definition “AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence, is the intelligence level in machines that allows them to perform any intellectual task a human can.”

Yes the nature of human jobs will change but what Hassabis is predicting here is “radical abundance". There will be very little which will be left for humans to do or prove their worth with. They will start looking for meaning in life, which will eventually lead them to religion.

Hence the Age of Religion might be coming back and with a vengeance. The only difference being people might want to understand it better rather than believing in it as a superstition. Spirituality has logic, it is the sum total of all self help you have ever read. You might not see it if you haven’t read any of the religious texts. The solution for all our anxiety and woes “dukha” lies there.

If you don’t believe me have a conversation with ChatGPT on what is the core message of Hinduism or Buddhism or any religion of choice. With the reach of the internet and increase in mental anxiety, the age of awareness might also be approaching faster.

AI is going to change the world drastically and the biggest change is going to come in the collective human psyche.
