We often say that if a child is not necessarily naughty, then do mean things usually to seek your attention. While watching the film I understood the meaning of this. In reality, they are not doing mean things to ask for attention from you rather because the attention you are giving them is not enough, or almost negligible hence they are trying to fill their void by harming things which are actually getting your attention. They feel hurt so they are just hurting you back. It’s just human nature.
We are surrounded by so many people but we rarely take time to know them better. Why should I take the pain to understand someone if nobody is taking pain to understand me. It becomes a vicious circle and all of us end up being lonely. The logical way is to become your own healer. The teacher film gives copies of Meditation by Marcus Aurelius as a Christmas present to a student of his while quoting “ This book has all of the Bible, Quran and Bhagvat Gita in it, without any of the religion.” I agree with him. All of religion, spirituality, philosophy and even psychology talks about the same principles for us to become self aware and heal ourselves. Though in most cases we don’t often choose this easy way. Instead we dwell in our complexes and insecurities over years, seeking connection. Which we often find in the most obscure of situations. When we finally open up while we try to understand this person, we get healed in the process of healing them.
The film talks about some deep human truths while never really betraying the people and world it is set in. Most profound insights are said in jest, without taking itself seriously. It leaves an impact nonetheless. As per the film and many of its kind, the connection actually happens over a road trip. I think now we should officially add a road trip as the therapy we need. Go on one at least once every year. Sing old songs and Reminisce about the people you were and how far you have come. Every wrong turn is a call for adventure. Every junction is an invitation for excitement. Then why do we get so troubled when change knocks at the door of life ? Change is just a promise of experience which will be closer to yourself. Embrace it with both hands, it’s just life hugging you back. It holds your hand warmly, tightly while you go explore the world fearlessly.
When was your last road trip? Comment and let me know.
