The Pursuit of Quality

Lately I have been feeling really agitated and angry. Now I am person who, though can be provoked easily but my anger doesn’t last long.
So this prolonged frustration was troubling me. When I tried to inspect it’s origin I found something very interesting.
I had hired people to provide certain home repair services. I was paying a bomb for quality work but every time I was getting a feeling of being duped. There are two ways to get quality work done
Either you hire folks who know their job well and are known for same.
You do your research and make up your mind about what you want.
I obviously choose the first way. I trusted the team to deliver but they didn’t — which lead to super frustration at my end. Here a few learnings at my end:
A. You have to do your research well in advance before venturing into a project. Not known what you want makes it difficult for both you and the team supporting you. As Loial says in Wheels of Time “Always in such a rush these humans. Never taking the time to properly prepare for what they are walking into.”
B. Money cannot buy quality. There will always be a mismatch between what you wanted and what you get.
C. Thought which we made we really uncomfortable was as a society we don’t pursue quality, we just believe in getting things done. I use to be proud of being a “Get things done" person over one who pursue “perfection". Now I am in a flux, I am getting more biased towards perfection.
Isn’t it peculiar how all of are just okay with being average self, living average lives, sharing average experiences, listening to average music, reading average thoughts and being just very very okay witb. How exactly we became a group who are just trying to pass shady work for quick bucks. If we are doing something we don’t revere as art, we need to change our job right away. It dumbfounds me to be group who don’t trust eachother for delivery of great work everytime. The value for money can still be explaining as the free market dynamics plays a part there. The quality needs to be non negotiable. It begins from self.
Mind it, I am not at all talking about quality brought in through materialism. As I said earlier Money can’t buy quality. This is one thing for which you will really need to apply yourself. Preparation, Conscious Choices, Demanding more from yourself first than others. What is the point of solving people’s problems with out quality?
Now I firmly believe that quality should be the first tenant one should aim for, it can’t be a blocker but the honest pursuit of it is what that matters.
